Public transportation

Berlin has a superb public transportation system consisting of subway, S-Bahn, tram and busses and can be used with the same tickets from the BVG  (the Berlin transport authority).

Traveling to Berlin Alexander Platz using Public Transport

The conference location - Berlin Congress Center (bcc) - is directly and conviniently located at U-Bahn/S-Bahn station Alexanderplatz. According to BVG information both stations should be normally reachable independent of ongoing construction work. But in any case make sure that you check/listen/read information given by the BVG at public stations.

Note: the S-Bahn between Zoologischer Garten and Friedrichstrasse will be closed during the conference due to constructing work. As an alternative you can the subway line U2 from Zoologischer Garten to Alexanderplatz.

EuroPython Badge as Free Public Transport Ticket

Your EuroPython badge allows you to use the public transportation system for free for all rides within zone A and B in Berlin.

The badge acts as BVG ticket and you must carry the badge always with you if you use the public transportation.

Be prepared for ticket controls by the BVG staff.

The free ticket is valid through the whole conference
from Monday 21/07/2014 00:00h until Sunday 27/07/2014 23:59h.

Zone A + B contains basically everything that you want to see in Berlin.

Berlin Welcome Card

This is a combined ticket for the Berlin public transport system and discount card for many Berlin attractions.

Berlin CityTourCard

This is a slightly cheaper alternative to the Berlin Welcome Card.

Getting from Berlin Tegel (TXL) airport to Berlin Alexanderplatz

There's a bus called JetExpressBus TXL providing a quick link between the airport and the city center:

It needs between 30-40 minutes from the airport to the city center.

Regular Berlin public transport tickets such as the Berlin Welcome Card can be used to travel on this bus.

You will need a ticket valid for zones A and B (usually called "AB").

If you have received your EuroPython badge by postal mail, you can use this as public transport ticket for traveling from the airport to the city center. The badge is valid for the zones A and B, from Monday, July 21 - Sunday, July 27. If you arrive early or stay longer, you will have to get day or single tickets.

Getting from Berlin Schönefeld (SFX) airport to Berlin Alexanderplatz

The airport Berlin Schönefeld has a train station which allows direct travel to Berlin Alexanderplatz. The train service is called Airport Express, uses the regional trains RE7 and RB14 and is available between 4:30 and 23:00 hours:

The journey takes around 30 minutes. There's a shuttle bus that operates between the airport and the train station.

Note that Berlin Schönefeld is in public transport zone C, not zones A and B.

If you have received your EuroPython badge by postal mail, you can use this as public transport ticket for part of the journey from the airport to the city center. The badge is valid for the zones A and B, from Monday, July 21 - Sunday, July 27. If you arrive early or stay longer, you will have to get day or single tickets. Important: Since the airport is in zone C, make sure you get an "Anschlußfahrschein/Connection ticket A/C" for 1.60 €. This covers the journey part from Schönefeld (zone C) into zone A/B when using your badge ticket.
